LASIK Eye Surgery Pre-Operative Examination

LASIK eye surgery pre-operative examinations are every bit as important as the surgery itself. It is during this exam that all of the information that is used for surgery is generated. It will include measuring corneal thickness and pupil size, as well as dilating the pupils to examine the retina.

EyeSight Hawaii performs VISX WaveScan measurements before every LASIK procedure. The VISX WaveScan maps your entire visual system in an extremely advanced way that was never before possible and creates a “Fingerprint of your vision”.

“Which is better 1 or 2?” During an eye exam, patients are all too familiar with this question and are often unsure if they are giving the correct answer. The WaveScan system can help with this uncertainty – it generates an extremely accurate and objective measurement of your vision. This can mean better LASIK results.

LASIK Eye Surgery and iLASIK

iLASIK is the unprecedented combination of IntraLase technology and the Advanced CustomVue procedure which delivers an accurate and effective treatment.

LASIK surgery first involves folding back a thin layer of the surface of the cornea (front surface of the eye). Then the VISX Star S4 IR excimer laser is used to gently and precisely reshape the remaining cornea.

Eyesight Hawaii's advanced LASIK surgery unit

EyeSight Hawaii uses the most advanced blade-free IntraLase Method to create the corneal flap. Ultra–fast pulses of laser light position microscopic bubbles at a precise depth determined by Dr. Olkowski. The laser light passes harmlessly through your cornea. Then the laser creates rows of these bubbles just beneath your corneal surface as it moves back and forth across your eye in a uniform plane. Next, the IntraLase laser stacks bubbles around your corneal diameter to create the edges of your flap. These bubbles are stacked at an angle that is determined by Dr. Olkowski and is individualized to the way your eye is shaped.

For the vision correction portion of the surgery, EyeSight Hawaii uses the VISX Star S4 IR excimer laser which has the only FDA-approved 3-Dimensional tracking system. So there is no need to worry if your eye moves because the laser will follow. After the laser treatment, the thin corneal flap is then put back into place.

LASIK Post-Operative Examinations

LASIK post-operative exams are extremely important. During these exams we can evaluate how your eyes are healing after your LASIK laser eye surgery. If you ever have any concerns with your LASIK, we are more than happy to take a look at your eyes at any time.

EyeSight Hawaii offers complimentary LASIK/PRK consultations. Patients meet our staff and discuss their vision correction options. Call us today and we would be happy to schedule an appointment for you in our main office in Honolulu or our Kahului office in Maui  and you’ll find out if LASIK or PRK is right for you.
