Jonathan Etter, M.D. is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist who specializes in corneal
transplantation, advanced cataract surgery, and refractive laser surgery including LASIK and PRK.
Dr. Etter joined EyeSight Hawaii after completing a cornea fellowship at the world-renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida which is consistently rated the nation's best eye hospital. There he was trained in the most advanced techniques in corneal, ocular surface and refractive surgery from the world's thought leaders within ophthalmology.
Before fellowship, Jonathan obtained his bachelor degree at Duke University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He then earned his medical doctorate at Jefferson Medical College and was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, the national honor society. Jonathan went back to Duke University for his ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Duke Eye Center. There he established himself as an outstanding clinician and earned national recognition for his innovative research as he received the Ophthalmology Times Writers Award. His leadership also earned him a seat on the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) national board of representatives, where he served as an ambassador for the field of ophthalmology.
Throughout his career, Dr. Etter has contributed greatly to the advancement of modern eye care with his dedication to ophthalmic research. He has published extensively in leading ophthalmology journals and has presented his research at numerous national meetings including that of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO).
